What steps might I take to clear a
trouble on my telephone system before I call in a trouble ticket?
If the system is completely dead, check the power to
make sure the system has not been disconnected or turned off. If
that is not the problem, check to see if a fuse on the system has
blown or a circuit breaker tripped in your building. Finally,
remove power from the system and reconnect. This is called a
"reset."
If the system has power
but has “strange” or un-explained problems, try resetting the
system. Resetting can fix numerous problems, much the same way
turning your computer off and on clears computer “glitches.” Your
telephone system is also a microprocessor. If none of these steps
restores service, call in a trouble report, or use our on-line
reporting system.
If the problem is noise
or static on a telephone, try replacing the handset cord or possibly
the line cord that runs from the phone to the wall jack. Noise can
also be caused by the handset itself and the handset may need to be
replaced. Take a handset from a phone that is working properly and
try it on the telephone that has the problem. If that fixes the
problem, order a handset.
Other, more serious problems, should be addressed
by a trained technician.
